The residence
Waterfront is where downtown Calgary meets the Bow, and this fifth-floor home at Parkside looks straight out over a landscaped riverside park to the river and the escarpment beyond. Two bedrooms on opposite sides of a bright, open living space, a balcony above the park, and Prince's Island, Chinatown and the core all a short walk from the lobby.
Set on the fifth floor of Parkside at Waterfront, Anthem's riverside community between Chinatown and Eau Claire, this two-bedroom, two-bathroom home looks north over a landscaped riverside park to the Bow River and the escarpment beyond. Prince's Island Park, the river pathways and the downtown core are all a short walk from the lobby.
The plan is efficient and easy to live in, with 780 sq ft of interior space. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill the living room with light, and glass doors open to a balcony overlooking the park. The kitchen pairs high-gloss white and wood-tone cabinetry with a gas cooktop, a wall oven, open shelving and an island with seating for four.
The two bedrooms sit on opposite sides of the living area for privacy. The primary has a walk-in closet and a three-piece ensuite with a glass shower, while the second bedroom is a bright corner room wrapped in windows with views over the park and river. A four-piece main bath and in-suite laundry complete the home.
Residents enjoy a concierge desk in the lobby, a fitness centre and an owners' lounge. Chinatown's restaurants and bakeries, Eau Claire, the Peace Bridge and the CTrain are all within walking distance, which makes this an easy lock-and-leave home in one of the most walkable corners of the city.

Worth knowing
Waterfront was built by Anthem on the land that once held the Greyhound bus barns. The master plan grew into roughly a dozen buildings and more than 1,000 homes along the Bow.
The community took root here around 1910, after earlier Chinese districts elsewhere downtown gave way to development. It has stayed in the same spot for more than a century.
A 1960s plan for a downtown expressway along the river would have cleared much of Chinatown. Strong public opposition, led largely by Chinatown residents, helped stop it.
The Calgary Chinese Cultural Centre on 1 Street SW, opened in 1992, is crowned by a dome inspired by the Temple of Heaven, with a museum and library inside.
Sien Lok Park, right beside Waterfront, holds a memorial to the Chinese workers who helped build the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Prince's Island Park, just west along the river, hosts the Calgary Folk Music Festival every July, plus summer Shakespeare and outdoor concerts.
The Peace Bridge, the red helix footbridge over the Bow, was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and opened in 2012.
The Centre Street Bridge opened in 1916. Its original concrete lions weathered badly and were replaced with recast copies in the 2000s.
The Bow River pathway at the door links into Calgary's regional pathway system, which runs for hundreds of kilometres across the city.
A few blocks south, the +15 skywalk network connects much of the downtown core above street level, one of the largest systems of its kind in the world.

Where downtown meets the Bow, Waterfront is a master-planned riverside community built by Anthem between Chinatown and Eau Claire. It is one of the few places in Calgary where a river park, an island park and the downtown core all sit within a few minutes' walk of each other.
From Parkside, the Bow River pathway runs right past the building, Prince's Island Park and the Peace Bridge are a short stroll west, and Chinatown's restaurants, bakeries and the Chinese Cultural Centre are around the corner. The City Hall CTrain station, the Central Library and Stephen Avenue are all within about fifteen minutes on foot.
